BILL BROWN, CO-FOUNDER

From the High Life to Real Life
He lived the high life and drank for over thirty years, but after spending time in treatment and a men’s halfway house in Phoenix, Arizona, Bill Brown finally found the life he had always searched for. Like many alcoholics, he was given the chance to clean the slate and start over.

In 1991, at a year and a half sober, with a few bucks in his pocket and a big idea, he created the first issue of Recovering Together Newspaper– for a few significant reasons:
1) to be a resource to the community at large, providing comprehensive and cutting edge information on treatment and prevention for addiction recovery and behavioral health; 2) to help erase the stigma that most addictions carry through awareness and advocacy; and 3) to let others know to never give up on hope for a better way of life.

Together with his wife, Barbara, they created the Art of Recovery Expo in 2005 so others could discover the numerous resources for help in treating addictions for people of all ages.

In 2010, Bill passed away from cancer, but his legacy in the Arizona Recovery community lives on. What mattered most to Bill was his sobriety and bringing the message of hope. Now, Bill is probably chairing the "Big Meeting" in the sky. He transitioned peacefully on April 22, 2010, with his Big Book beside him.
