BEST-SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLDWIDE
CONSULTANT JOHN LEE TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE ART OF RECOVERY EXPO ON
SEPTEMBER 29
PHOENIX,
Arizona (September 6, 2007) – Working on relationships and recovery has
literally taken noted author John Lee across the globe. His journey will place
him in the Valley of the Sun on September 29 as he will be one of the featured
keynote speakers at the 3rd annual Art of Recovery Expo at the
Phoenix Convention Center.
Lee,
best-selling author of The Flying
Boy: Healing the Wounded Man,” has written numerous books on
anger management issues and emotional regression. He has been featured on Oprah, 20/20, Barbara Walter’s The View, CNN, PBS, and NPR and has been interviewed by Newsweek, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and dozens
of other national magazines.
His
contributions in the fields of recovery, relationships, men's issues,
co-dependency and creativity have put him in the national spotlight for over
twenty years. Recently, he has seen a positive shift in how men handle their
anger. “I am seeing more people who are
more readily willing and able to confront their anger issues. I have taught
over 500 CEO's, managers and owners of businesses around the country in the
last two years. Most of these were men who brought me in to deal with their own
and their company’s anger issues. This would not have been done ten years ago.
We're moving in a positive direction.”
The 3rd annual Art of
Recovery Expo which will be held in Hall E at the Phoenix Convention Center on
September 29 has proven to be a life-changing experience for those in need.
This year’s event will focus on raising awareness on the effectiveness of treatment
and the all too important hope of recovery. There will be free admission for
the general public.
The
Art of Recovery Expo will provide positive wellness solutions to individuals
who are currently facing challenges whether they are drug or alcohol addiction,
eating disorders, marriage or relationship problems, gambling addiction, among
many others. Over 100 exhibitors and nearly 5,000 attendees will be on hand and
will be comprised of counselors, treatment facilities, out-patient clinics,
family therapists and other prominent specialists from the Valley of the Sun.
Additionally, workshops will be presented throughout the event covering
numerous topics of interest. The Art of Recovery Expo is a SAMSA sponsored
event (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration).
“By
offering a variety of educational and informational formats for participants,
events like The Art of Recovery Expo can positively affect recovery programs,”
added Lee, a former consultant for The Betty Ford Clinic.
Now
working exclusively with the Hanley Center in West Palm Beach,
Florida, a leader in cutting edge
and holistic substance abuse treatment, Lee provides a comprehensive continuum
of care for men, women and older adults. “My
relationship with the Hanley Center is one that I am very excited about. I have
been associated in a variety of different ways with a dozen treatment centers
over the last two decades. Hanley is the most forward thinking and progressive
and inclusive. I am training the staff and patients in my approaches to anger
management, grief, emotional regression and much more and they are very
receptive,” said Lee.
While battling alcoholism and drug
abuse can dramatically impact people’s lives, especially those closest to the
impaired individual, today’s support group has changed over the years. “The
nuclear family of the fifties, sixties, and seventies is not the main support
base for most people. Peers, friends, co-workers have stepped up and in many
cases replaced the person's biological family,” said Lee.
